SDA Funding Process

Below, you'll find a detailed breakdown of these steps to guide you in supporting your participant on this journey. Here at Habilitas, we are committed to supporting Participants and Support Coordinators along the SDA journey. From initial enquiry to handing over the keys on move in day, we can guide you through this complex process.

1. Check Eligibility: Make sure the participant meets the NDIS criteria for SDA funding, which includes having extreme functional impairment or very high support needs.
2. Set Housing Goals: Include specific housing goals in the participant's NDIS Plan, such as seeking more suitable housing or living independently.
3. Secure NDIS Funding: Ensure the participant's NDIS Plan includes at least 20 hours of funding for assessments and support coordination to explore housing options.
4. Functional Capacity Assessment: Have an Occupational Therapist assess the participant's needs to determine the right type of SDA housing.
5. Prepare and Submit Documents: Compile all necessary documents and submit the SDA housing application to the NDIA for review.
6. NDIA Review and Appeals: Wait for the NDIA to review the application. If SDA funding is approved, it should be added to the participant's NDIS Plan. If denied, there's an option to appeal with the help of a Support Coordinator.
7. Find a Forever Home: With SDA funding approved, the participant can either move into their chosen home or get assistance from Habilitas to find and secure a suitable home.
