SIL Engagement

In the realm of specialised disability accommodation (SDA) and supported independent living (SIL), the synergy between SDA and SIL providers is pivotal

To foster a seamless and supportive living environment for SDA residents, these providers enter into collaboration agreements. These agreements are meticulously designed to align with the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) standards for both SIL and SDA services, while also encapsulating the roles and responsibilities of SDA providers alongside the residency rights of SDA residents, as dictated by the tenancy legislation relevant to each Australian state.

A Unified Approach to Empowerment

At the heart of these collaboration agreements is the commitment to empower residents. By detailing how SIL and SDA providers will work together, the agreements ensure that residents are fully supported in exercising their rights and fulfilling their responsibilities under their residency agreements. This collaborative framework is not just about providing a place to live; it's about creating a supportive community where residents can thrive.

Key Features of Our Collaboration Agreements:

Compliance with NDIS Requirements: Ensuring that both SIL and SDA services meet the high standards set by the NDIS, providing peace of mind for residents and their families.

Defined Roles and Responsibilities: Clearly outlining the contributions of both SDA and SIL providers to avoid overlaps and ensure a cohesive support network.

Residency Rights Protection: Adhering to state-specific tenancy legislation to safeguard the rights of SDA residents, ensuring they have a secure and stable living environment.

Support for Residents: Detailing the mechanisms through which residents will be supported in understanding and exercising their rights and responsibilities, promoting independence and self-advocacy.

Understanding SIL

A Pathway to Independence

SIL is tailored for individuals over 18 years old with high support needs, requiring substantial assistance throughout the day. It is primarily delivered in shared living environments, allowing for personalised support that respects the individual needs of each resident.

This arrangement not only fosters a sense of community among residents with similar support needs but also offers numerous benefits:

  • Freedom and Independence: Residents enjoy greater autonomy over their daily lives.
  • Choice and Control: SIL provides more flexibility in scheduling and activities.
  • Cost Efficiency: Sharing expenses like rent and utilities reduces living costs.
  • Community: Living with peers offers social benefits and opportunities for shared experiences.
  • Skill Development: Residents have opportunities to learn new skills and engage in new activities.

Securing SIL Funding: A Step-by-Step Guide

SIL funding, referred to as Assistance with Daily Living (ADL) within the NDIS Core support budget, is tailored to the individual and can be shared among housemates. To incorporate SIL into your NDIS plan, the process involves:

What are the steps

Assessment
Coordination
Accomodation and Provider Selection
Roster of Care (RoC)
NDIS Submission
Approval and Funding

Assessment: An Occupational Therapist assesses your support needs.

Coordination: Your Support Coordinator reviews current supports and identifies the level of SIL support required.

Accommodation and Provider Selection: Together with your Support Coordinator, you explore suitable accommodation options and select an SIL provider.

Roster of Care (RoC): Your chosen SIL provider drafts a RoC, detailing the weekly support structure. This document, once agreed upon, outlines the necessary funding.

NDIS Submission: A change of circumstances form, along with the RoC and provider’s quote, is submitted to the NDIS for review.

Approval and Funding: Upon approval, the SIL budget is allocated in your NDIS plan, enabling the transition to accommodation.

Our Commitment to Collaborative Support

In our collaborative agreements between SDA and SIL providers, we are dedicated to ensuring that residents not only find a forever home but also receive the support they need to live as independently as possible. By integrating SIL within the SDA framework, we aim to create environments that are not just about living but thriving. Together, we are committed to providing a holistic approach to care, where every resident is empowered to lead a fulfilling life.
